History of Religion

Can religion be defined? Is it belief in a higher power, or as belief in a Scripture, or as a set of practices, or something else? Do religions/worldviews have basic beliefs? Does each individual have a most basic belief by which they interpret all of reality? How is ‘God’ defined by the major worldviews historically? Are there certain levels of religion which may be held by individuals and with what are these levels primarily concerned?
